What is Vascular CTA?

What is Vascular CTA?

CTA stands for Computed Tomography Angiography. A Traditional CT combines computer technology with sophisticated X-ray equipment to produce detailed images of the body. Angiography is a method that uses a clear liquid called a contrast agent to make the veins and arteries visible. A Vascular CTA combines all of this to produce detailed images of the arteries and veins.

At Fairfax Radiology, we offer a combination of the most advanced CT imaging equipment along with a comprehensive understanding of the diseases and conditions that can be diagnosed using these scans to provide you with quick and accurate answers about your health. All so you can get back to doing what you love best.

What should I expect during a Vascular CTA?

If this is your first CT, you may not be sure what to expect. Not to worry, we are here to guide you every step of the way. Before the procedure, you will be given detailed instructions. During the procedure, you will lie on the padded scanner table. You will be asked to hold very still and hold your breath as the table moves through the CT scanner, capturing images. You may hear a humming sound from inside the machine. A contrast agent will be given intravenously for the exam. The contrast may give you a warm flushed feeling. The Technologist will be in the adjacent room operating the scanner, but will be able to hear and communicate with you throughout the exam. The entire test takes just a few minutes.

What should I expect after a Vascular CTA?

Once the procedure is complete, you may resume your normal activity level. You will be instructed to drink a lot of fluids after the procedure in order prevent dehydration and to assist in the elimination of the contrast agent from your system.
