If your Dentist or Oral Surgeon recommended Dental CT (Computed Tomography), you have come to the right place. Fairfax Radiology is the first practice to offer complete Dental CT scanning services and is a SimPlant Master site for the region.
Dental CT is one of the most advanced forms of oral imaging available. During a Dental CT, multiple images are taken and can be reformatted into a comprehensive 3D visualization of the inside of your mouth. This allows your dentist to get a complete picture of important internal structures, assess bone quality and gain additional confidence, no matter how complex the surgery.
Why would my Dentist or Oral Surgeon recommend a Dental CT?
Your Dentist or Oral Surgeon may recommend a Dental CT if you are a candidate for dental implants or another type of surgical procedure, which requires an accurate and detailed image of the inside of your mouth.
What can be diagnosed using a Dental CT?
A Dental CT is commonly used for treatment planning of orthodontic issues, including impacted teeth, TMJ, implants, sinus issues, jaw tumors, reconstructive surgery and more.
What should I expect during a Dental CT?
If this is your first Dental CT, you may not be sure what to expect. Not to worry, we are here to guide you every step of the way. During a Dental CT, you will lie on the padded scanner table. You will be asked to hold very still as the table moves through the CT scanner, capturing images. You may hear a humming sound from inside the machine. The Technologist will be in the adjacent room operating the scanner, but will be able to hear and communicate with you throughout the exam. The entire test takes just a few minutes.
How is a Dental CT scan different from an X-ray?
Like Traditional X-rays, a CT scan produces multiple images of the inside of your body. However, unlike Traditional X-rays, the images generated during a CT scan are cross-sectional and can be reformatted in multiple planes and turned into a three-dimensional image. CT images typically provide greater detail than Traditional X-rays. One major advantage of CT is its ability to image bone and soft tissue at the same time.
