Together In Teal – Raising Awareness on Ovarian Cancer

We are a proud partner of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) Washington DC Metro Chapter. On May 11, 2019, 650 participants lined up at the starting line in Washington, DC, for NOCC’s 17th annual Together in Teal Walk/Run to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer.  Local events such as this raise awareness, honor those that are affected by ovarian cancer, and raise financial support benefiting NOCC’s programs and initiatives.

Throughout the year, the NOCC distributes materials at many local health fairs and community events. They provide care items and information about the disease to those newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Additionally, they launched a peer to peer program in 2018, which matches patients of similar age, diagnosis and treatment with someone further in her journey.
The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be over 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer diagnosis this year.

An important part of our business is supporting our local community through sponsorship events such as this one. We hope to educate on the importance of early detection, and improve the overall quality of life for survivors and their families.

Early signs of ovarian cancer can include abdominal bloating or swelling, quickly feeling full when eating, weight loss, pelvic discomfort, changes in bowel habits (such as constipation), and/or a frequent need to urinate. If you or anyone you know has these symptoms, or has a family history of ovarian or breast cancer, talk with your doctor about screening with blood test and/or pelvic ultrasound.
