What is CAD?

Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) is a powerful tool that assists radiologists by analyzing medical images for patterns that may suggest abnormalities, such as tumors, masses, or calcifications. CAD does not make a diagnosis—instead, it highlights areas that may warrant closer review by our subspecialized radiologists.

How Does CAD Work?

After your imaging exam, CAD uses computer algorithms to scan the images and flag areas that match certain criteria linked to possible health concerns. It essentially provides a second look—helping radiologists ensure that nothing is overlooked. While CAD is not used in every type of imaging, it is especially helpful in modalities like mammography and prostate MRI.

Why is CAD Important?

CAD can improve both accuracy and efficiency in imaging interpretation. For example, in breast imaging, CAD helps detect subtle signs of breast cancer earlier by drawing attention to regions of interest that may not be immediately obvious to the human eye.
