Non-Invasive CT Lung Screening Can Help Reduce Lung Cancer Deaths

Saturday Screening Appointments are Available in November at Fairfax Radiology

In the U.S., lung cancer causes more deaths than any other forms of cancer. In the initial stages, it does not present any symptoms and can easily go undiagnosed. Smokers and former smokers have a greater risk for developing lung cancer.

During November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and every month, select locations of Fairfax Radiology Centers are offering convenient, Saturday Low Dose CT Lung Screening appointments for individuals who are eligible. To schedule, patients must have a referral from their primary medical provider. Screenings may also be scheduled for weekdays.

“Screening can catch lung cancer at an early stage when curative treatment is easier,” said Melany Atkins, M.D., a radiologist at Fairfax Radiological Consultants PLLC. “Annual CT lung cancer screening for high-risk individuals can save lives.”

Lung screening is a simple, quick, non-invasive test and is covered by most insurance plans. Screening is not a substitute for smoking cessation. Quitting remains the most effective way to reduce death related to lung cancer.

Factors that qualify an individual for a screening are:

  • Being between 50 to 80 years old
  • Currently smoking or being a smoker who has quit within the past 15 years
  • Having smoked the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes a day for 20+ years
  • Asymptomatic (without signs or symptoms of lung cancer)

Schedule a CT lung screening online now or call 703.752.7799.
