FAIRFAX, Va., July 2026 — Fairfax Radiology Centers (FRC), the region’s largest and most experienced radiology practice, is proud to announce that Sean Gharai, M.D., has joined its team as an Emergency Radiology specialist. Dr. Gharai brings advanced fellowship training in emergency imaging, extensive experience interpreting urgent and complex imaging studies, and a strong commitment to providing timely, accurate care for patients.
Dr. Gharai completed his Emergency Radiology Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, following his Diagnostic Radiology residency at George Washington University. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the American Society of Emergency Radiology.
During his radiology training, Dr. Gharai gained extensive experience interpreting CT, MRI, ultrasound and radiographic examinations for emergency and inpatient patients. He has also served as a diagnostic radiologist with GW Medical Faculty Associates, independently interpreting and reporting after-hours imaging studies for patients at George Washington University Hospital.

For Dr. Gharai, joining Fairfax Radiology also represents an opportunity to return to the community where he grew up.
“I am a native of Northern Virginia and grew up in the area, where I have lived for most of my life,” said Dr. Gharai. “I am excited to return to the community that has been home to me for so many years and have the opportunity to care for the patients and families in the region.”
Dr. Gharai’s clinical and academic interests include emergency imaging, abdominal imaging and oncologic imaging. His research and presentations have included the use of PSMA PET/CT and prostate MRI in newly diagnosed prostate cancer, as well as imaging of neck lesions and other complex clinical conditions. His work has been presented at national radiology meetings, including the Radiological Society of North America and the American Roentgen Ray Society.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gharai has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and medical education. At George Washington University, he served on the Emergency Management Committee, working with hospital leadership and physicians from emergency and trauma surgery to improve emergency operations and trauma response. He also participated in the radiology residency evaluation and interview committees and has provided educational lectures to radiology residents on emergency abdominal imaging.
At FRC, Dr. Gharai will provide subspecialized Emergency Radiology expertise, helping referring physicians and patients receive timely interpretation of complex imaging studies when rapid clinical decision-making is essential.
