Fairfax Radiology Breast Center of Loudoun to Open in Lansdowne New Facility is County’s Largest; Features Latest in Breast Health

FAIRFAX, VA, NOVEMBER 14, 2020

News Release: Loudoun County residents will soon have a new, dedicated facility for breast care. Fairfax Radiology Centers announced today that they are expanding imaging services by opening a comprehensive breast imaging center in Lansdowne November 16.

Fairfax Radiology Breast Center of Loudoun (BCL) – Peterson Family Breast Center will occupy over 8,000 square feet in the medical office building at 19465 Deerfield Avenue, Suite 105, Lansdowne, VA 20176. Weekend and evening hours and easy appointment scheduling will improve patient accessibility, efficiency of service and easy access to results.

A lot of holistic design went into Fairfax Radiology Breast Center of Loudoun. Because the build-out started just as the COVID-19 pandemic began, the team, including architects and medical professionals, was able to put in the initial design extra safety benefits for the patients and the 32-member staff such as a touchless entrance door and glass wall sections. There’s even an app to control flow from the time patients arrive in the parking lot.

“Fairfax Radiology Breast Center of Loudoun’s new center will be the largest in the county and will feature the most innovative technology and procedures for breast and bone health,” said Elise Berman, M.D. “BCL is specially designed to improve the patient experience in a soothing environment and to provide the highest quality care.”

In this area, patients’ prior images, prior reports, doctor’s order/referral(s) are reviewed. Patient images are processed here and put in their doctor’s order with current medical histories provided by patients at check-in so that a radiologist can read that information in conjunction with the images.

“While breast cancer continues to be the second most common cancer in women with the CDC reporting some 42,000 deaths from it each year, the great news is that for breast cancers caught early, five-year survival rate is over 90 percent as affirmed by the American Cancer Society,” Berman said.

Berman noted that all CDC-recommended protocols for safety and cleaning during COVID-19 will be strictly followed at BCL, and that patients should not put off having a mammogram.

“The delay in possible cancer diagnosis and appropriate treatment when you put off your mammogram may be even riskier,” Berman said.

The BCL team will work with all providers to ensure a comprehensive breast program. Patients and referring clinicians will feel confident in the knowledge that the Fairfax Radiology breast radiologists exceed the national benchmark standards for cancer detection rates.
