Virtual Colonoscopy
How A CT Virtual Colonoscopy Works
Colon preparation is performed one day prior to the exam (please review Preparation Instructions). During the exam a small rubber catheter is self-inserted into the rectum and the colon is insufflated with room air under patient control to tolerance. No bowel relaxant or intravenous contrast is used.
CT imaging consists of scout views and scans in the supine and prone positions using a mult-detector row CT scanner. The entire examination, including colonic insufflation, takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
