Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women in the United States. More deaths occur every year from this disease than from colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.
What is "Low Dose" CT Screening?
Low-dose spiral CT screening uses minimal radiation (roughly the same as 2 regular chest x-rays) to detect the very early signs of lung cancer - including the curable tumors that 80% of chest x-rays can't see!
Who Should Have This Test?
Lung cancers usually occur as we get older, or if we have a history of smoking. At Fairfax Radiology we recommend low-dose CT screening for anyone 60 years of age and older who has smoked a pack or more of cigareetes a day for at least 10 years.
Other relative indications include pipe or cigar smoking or significant exposure to second hand smoke.
Do I Need A Doctor's Order?
You do not need an order from your physician for this test. However, we will send a copy of the result to your medical doctor and we encourage you to review the result with him or her.
