90% Radiation Dose Reduction with 33% Image Quality Improvement
As guided by our Mission Statement, Fairfax Radiology is committed to the lowest radiation exposure we can achieve. Recent commentary has highlighted attention to risk for CT Scanning, most especially the Coronary CTA procedures. Consideration of the dose verses the benefit is the key factor in determining a patient’s choice to have a heart evaluation. Because it is in the patient’s best interest, our radiologists have insisted that all opportunities be pursued to improve dose reduction without loss of image quality.
Because of this exceptional standard, Fairfax Radiological Consultants PC is pleased to announce that it has started clinical service on a new state-of-the-art high-definition (HD) CT scanner, the GE CT750 Discovery system.
For cardiac CT, when combined with other recent technologic improvements, a 90% reduction of the effective dose to the patient is realized. The system also has a 33% improvement in spatial resolution that enables the scanner to better image small anatomical details.
FRC is the most experienced site in the region for Cardiac CT:
FRC has been doing cardiac CTA for more than six years, the earliest site in the mid-Atlantic region and has performed more than 10,000 exams. We have 5 physicians who meet the highest American College of Cardiology accreditation (Level III) for reading coronary CT and have been teaching other physicians and technologists to do cardiac CT in FRC's Learning Center for several years.
FRC was one of 50 imaging sites that participated worldwide in an AMA study of CTA radiation doses. The results demonstrated that FRC's scans had the lowest average radiation dose of the 50 centers. The average dose of a coronary CTA at the 50 sites was 6 times greater than average dose at FRC.
FRC is fully committed to performing the highest quality, safest CT.
- Our average dose for cardiac CT is more than 80% less than that performed at the vast majority of sites.
- We were one of the first 5 sites in the world to purchase and use the new GE HD750 low-dose CT system.
- All of our studies are performed using the lowest radiation dose available anywhere in world.
- Our Cardiac CT program director is constantly invited to consult and lecture around the world on the topic of low-radiation-dose cardiac CT.

FRC wants all patients to be fully informed and confident that your healthcare choices will improve your health. FRC is committed to dose reduction and the highest quality imaging possible. Today’s recent technologies allow us to assure that our referring physicians and patient receive excellence in imaging and safety.
