Ultrasound is the imaging method used in these studies. It uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize the vessels. Using a specialized Doppler technique we can also measure the movement of blood within the vessels.
Vascular Services / Conditions
- Carotid Duplex scan
- Venous Duplex scan
- Arterial Doppler testing of the upper and lower extremities
- Renal Artery scan
- Venous Mapping
- Ankle-brachial index (ABI)
- Abdominal scan
What is a Carotid Duplex scan?
Carotid Duplex scans evaluate the body's two carotid arteries, which are located on each side of the neck and carry blood from the heart to the brain. This provides detailed pictures of these blood vessels to help
physicians determine the extent and cause of restriced blood flow.

What is a Venous Duplex scan?
Venous Duplex scans evaluate blood flow throughout the veins in the legs.

What is Arterial Doppler testing of the upper and lower extremities?
An ultrasound exam to evaluate blood flow through arteries located in the arms and legs.

What is a Renal Artery scan?
Renal Artery scans evaluates blood flow through the arteries that carry blood to the kidneys.

What is Venous Mapping?
Venous Mapping visualizes leg or arm veins

What is an Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI)?
ABI involves taking blood pressures in each arm and at the ankles. A ratio is calculated which provides an indication of whether peripheral arterial disease is present.

What is an Abdominal scan?
An Abdominal scan detects weaknesses in the abdominal aorta that may require treatment.
