U.S. Preventive Task Force Recommends CT Lung Cancer ScreeningPosted on Aug 27, 2013
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends CT lung cancer screening for individuals who are at high risk for developing lung cancer. High risk individuals include current smokers (or those who have quit in past 15 years), who have a smoking history of 30 pack-years, and are between the ages of 55 to 79 years old.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. Almost 90% of people who are diagnosed with lung cancer die, because it wasn’t detected until it reached an advanced stage. By screening high risk patients, lung cancer can be detected at earlier stages, when it is more treatable. Fairfax Radiology provides low dose CT lung screenings.
